Books on exceptional examples of leadership written in the future will not have to spend any time recalling Joe Biden’s reaction to the baby formula shortage across the United States.  He’s been asleep at the wheel for weeks, but finally, action is being taken, as “Operation Fly Formula” is set to deliver 31 tons of formula from Ramstein American Air Base in Germany.  It will land in Indiana on Saturday, then be distributed nationwide.

There are stories of numerous infants being admitted to hospitals after suffering allergic reactions to homemade formulas that some parents are using to feed their babies.

132 pallets of Nestle Health Science Alfamino Infant and Alfamino Junior formula are on their way, followed by 114 pallets of Gerber Good Start Extensive HA formula coming later next week.

Biden’s original plan was to have commercially chartered planes move the product from Europe. The problem is that there were no commercial flights available, for more forward-thinking White House employees started making decisions. The U.S. Airfare will deploy planes for the mission.

The shortage here is because of a shutdown of an Abbot plant in Massachusetts because of a contamination incident. Abbot is a massive producer of baby formula, and the plant in Massachusetts produces 80% of the amino acid formula needed for baby formula.
