Here’s a complex family crisis that only one family in the history of the world has had to deal with.

Vince Wilfork was a great player for the New England Patriots, charged with protecting Tom Brady as one of his top offensive linemen.  Wilfork had a fantastic career, winning a couple of Super Bowls with the Patriots, and he also won a national championship when he played for the University of Miami.

He doesn’t have the rings to prove that he was a champion because his son stole them.  D’Aundre Holmes-Wilford pleaded guilty to theft of property greater than $300,000, according to court documents. He received a deferred judgment, which means he will have five years of probation, and if he stays clean for the next five years, the conviction will be vacated from his record.  He must also return all the stolen property to his father, and he took quite a bit of incredible memorabilia.

On top of the two Super Bowl rings he stole, the son also took two AFC championship rings, the Miami college championship ring, and other jewelry.

With the criminal charges handled, there’s good news on the family front for the Wilforks, as somehow it appears they have been able to move on from this situation.  Here’s a quote the younger Wilfork’s attorney gave to the Galveston Daily News.

“The outcome that emerged from the case was a result of much self-reflection and healing on the defendant’s part and the willingness of his parents to forgive him and show him unconditional love with the sincere hope that he can be rehabilitated and go on to live a happy and productive life.”

Initially, the elder Wilfork thought he had misplaced the rings, but an investigation showed his son had stolen them and sold them for $62,000.
