Russia’s invasion of Ukraine began five days ago, and peace talks have begun as officials from the two countries are meeting in Belarus.  Ukraine diplomats made one thing clear – they have no intention of surrendering.

Here’s what Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba told CNBC Monday.

“Ukraine is ready to continue seeking a diplomatic solution, but Ukraine is not ready to surrender or capitulate.  I’m a diplomat, I have to believe in the success of talks, but at the same time my main goal as a diplomat now is to impose more sanctions on Russia, to bring more weapons to Ukraine, and to isolate Russia as much as we can in the international arena so I’m focused on this part of diplomacy.

“We stand not only for ourselves but for the world order as we all know it.”

Ukrainian negotiators have said they want a ceasefire and immediate withdrawal of Russian troops.

As Russia continues to pound major cities in Kuwait via air and ground attacks, tens of thousands of Ukrainians attempt to leave for safety in other eastern European countries, while other citizens have stayed behind to find and defend their county.

Economic sanctions the U.S. and allies have been pummeling Russia with are starting to be felt, as the Russian ruble dropped 29% against the dollar on Monday.

Most experts monitoring the war believe that the Russian military has made very little progress, and Ukrainian soldiers are putting up an intense fight.
