The screws are getting tightened more each day on the Russian economy, continuing Tuesday night, as Joe Biden announced during his first State of the Union address that he was authorizing a ban on all Russian aircraft from flying into American airspace.

”We will join our allies in closing off American airspace to all Russian flights, further isolating Russia and adding an additional squeeze on their economy.”

Loud applause met that declaration from members of Congress on hand.

Rich Russian oligarchs will find their private jets aren’t welcome in too many places around the world, as Europe and Canada have done the same thing.

In a counter move and response to the sanctions, Russia said they would not allow aircraft from 36 countries from entering their airspace, which is not something that scares U.S. Airlines because Delta, United, and American Airlines have all temporarily suspended flights there.

Biden also vowed to “inflict pain” on Vladimir Putin in other ways.

“We are choking off Russia’s access to technology that will sap its economic strength and weaken its military for years to come.”

The events in Ukraine dominated Biden’s speech, but he did end by saying, “the State of the Union is strong — because you, the American people, are strong.”
