The news from Uvalde, Texas, gets more sad, tragic, and horrifying every day.  Emotions for many are shifting to anger and utter disbelief now as the top Texas law enforcement officer shared details of what occurred at Robb Elementary School.

Col. Steven McCraw is the Director of Public Safety for Texas. During a press conference Friday, he tearfully admitted that 19 cops stood outside the classroom where the gunman had his victims trapped and did nothing. Why? Because they apparently thought everyone inside the classroom was deceased, but there were still 911 calls from children begging for help.

McCraw said, “it was clearly the wrong decision.”  According to the police, they reportedly thought that the shots they heard being fired were aimed at the door to keep them at bay, which is why they did not go in and rescue whomever they could.  It is unknown how many children were killed as the 19 police officers stood outside the classroom doing nothing.

“The incident commander thought at that time there was no more children at risk. Obviously there were children that were at risk.”

There are even more disturbing details of what happened that leave many people scratching their heads. Reportedly scores of Border Patrol agents rushed to the school when they heard reports of what was transpiring on their scanners. According to the New York Times, they were

told not to go inside by Uvalde Police Department.

McCraw said the killer entered the classroom and locked the door at 11:34 a.m.  Within minutes, he fired more than 100 shots and kept shooting until 12:21.  It wasn’t until 12:50 that police got keys from the school’s janitor and gained entry.

Here’s more from McCraw about the mind-numbing display of incompetence.

“With the benefit of hindsight, from where I am sitting now – of course it was not the right decision. It was the wrong decision. There is no excuse.”
