Well that was quick. President Trump has been discharged from Walter Reed Medical Center less than 72 hours after being admitted to the hospital in Bethesda, Md. Upon his return to the White House on Monday evening, the president stood on the Truman Balcony, removed his face mask, gave a double thumbs-up and saluted the soldiers down below. The president then stood on the balcony for several minutes before entering the White House.

Shortly before leaving the hospital, Trump sent out a tweet, “Will be back on the Campaign Trail soon!!!” Earlier in the day, after it had been announced that Trump would be discharged, he tweeted: “Don’t be afraid of Covid. Don’t let it dominate your life.”

Trump, wearing a suit, tie and face mask, walked out of the hospital just after 6:30 p.m., Eastern Standard Time. Before boarding Marine One, the president said, “Thank you very much, everybody.” The president was then flown to the White House where he is expected to continue treatment for COVID-19.

White House physician Sean Conley talked to reporters earlier in the day and said that the president’s symptoms were improving and that he had met the criteria for discharge as of Monday afternoon. Conley also acknowledged that Trump is not out of the woods and that his symptoms could deteriorate as the illness progresses.

“Though he may not entirely be out of the woods yet, the team and I agree that all of our evaluations, and most importantly, his clinical status, support the president’s safe return home,” Conley said during a briefing outside Walter Reed.
