Despite the best efforts by many mainstream outlets to scare and shame people from simply trying to enjoy their life, travelers will be out in force over the Labor Day weekend, as anyone flying in and out of major airports big cities will learn. 

A publication called “The Vacationer” reports that 25% of Americans are planning what they call revenge travel. 

What the heck is that you ask? Exactly what it sound like. 

“That’s traveling more than they usually do, just because they were bottled up at home. So, I’m guessing that, for Labor Day, this is one of the last opportunities they’re going have for that for this summer.”

Their survey discovered 53% of people they polled plan to travel somewhere on Labor Day weekend. 

Tripadvisor had a survey that said 31% of Americans in their survey plan on taking a trip this weekend, which is consistent to the last two years. 

The age group most eager to pack a bag and head somewhere are millennials at 38%, followed by Gen X at 32% and Gen Z at 31%. 

U.S travel expert Elizabeth Monahan told CNBC this about millennials.

“This group, in particular, has really been missing out on some of the great memories that you can get through travel and experiencing different parts of the world with those closest to you.”

According to Tripadvisor, here are the top 5 Labor Day destinations this year. 

  • Ocean City, Maryland
  • Orlando, Florida
  • Las Vegas
  • Myrtle Beach, South Carolina
  • New York
