The COVID-19 pandemic, in a lot of ways, has become similar to being stuck in a traffic roundabout. Just when you think you have a chance to head into a different direction, a big van decked out in COVID-19 stickers comes along your passenger side, keeping you stuck in the endless circle and ultimately from getting anywhere.
Here we are again, just days after squaring off in the first Presidential debate, we have learned that once again COVID will be the one taking center stage as Donald Trump confirmed he, along with his wife, have now tested positive for the virus. Just as campaign season was hitting full steam ahead, Trump will now be required to lay low.
Trump 2020 Campaign manager Bill Stepien released this statement, “All previously announced campaign events involving the President’s participation are in the process of being moved to virtual events or are being temporarily postponed. In addition, previously announced events involving members of the First Family are also being temporarily postponed. All other campaign events will be considered on a case-by-case basis and we will make any relevant announcements in the days ahead. Vice President Mike Pence, who has tested negative for COVID-19, plans on resuming his scheduled campaign events. Any further information about the President will come from the White House.”
Joe Biden has so far tested negative for the virus after sharing the debate stage with President Trump for 90-minutes on Monday night. The two did avoid the customary handshake beforehand as a coronavirus safety measure. The next presidential debate is set for Oct. 15 in Miami. Representatives of the commission on Presidential debates have not commented at this point on its plans for future debates after this latest development. Stay tuned.
