In the early days of Russia’s invasion of Ukraine, President Volodymyr Zelensky replied to Joe Biden’s offer of airlifting him out of the county by saying he needed ammo, not a ride.

One person who heard that plea was NASCAR team owner Richard Childress, who sits on the board of directors for Ammo Inc.  He was moved by Zelensky’s words and vowed to find a way to help, so he made a plan to donate ammunition to the Ukrainian military to assist in the defense of their country.

Here’s what Childress told Fox News.

“We just had to help. I heard the president say. We don’t want to leave, I need ammo.”

It took less than a week for Childress and his team to ship 1 million rounds of ammunition to Ukraine.

Ammo Inc. CEO Fred Wagenhals told USA Today that the ammo cost was $700,000, and it has unfortunately been held up by paperwork and is not yet in the hands of the military.

“It is very close to being received. It is sitting right at the border, waiting on the defense minister of Ukraine to pick it up in the proper place.”

NASCAR legends Dale Earnhardt and Dale Earnhardt Jr. both raced for the Richard Childress Racing Team during their careers.
