At least two NFL teams have reportedly picked up the phone to see if Urban Meyer would have any interest in returning to the sidelines as an NFL head coach.

According to ESPN, Meyer did not outright dismiss the thought and may even be considering whether he wants to make the jump to the NFL. Meyer is expected to make a decision in the next week and let teams know before the end of the NFL regular season.

Meyer last coached at Ohio State in 2018 but has never coached at the NFL level. Health may play a role in any decision the 56-year old coach makes. Meyer has previously discussed the fact that he has an arachnoid cyst in his brain that causes frequent headaches and can be worsened in moments of aggravation.

Meyer served as a college football head coach at Bowling Green from 2001 to 2002, at the University of Utah from 2003 to 2004, the University of Florida from 2005 to 2010, and Ohio State from 2011 until his retirement after the 2019 Rose Bowl.

With his connections to Florida and his success with the Gators, the Jacksonville Jaguars coaching job would appear to be the obvious landing spot. Jaguars head coach Doug Marrone is 12-34 with the Jaguars and has one year remaining on his contract. The Jaguars also look like they are on their way to securing the top draft pick in the upcoming NFL Draft.

In his career as a college coach, Meyer won three national titles, one with Ohio State and two with the Florida Gators.
