If you weren’t a fan of U2, you should be now. Their iconic frontmen Bono and The Edge went into Kyiv and performed a surprise jam session for a small crowd of fans inside a bomb shelter for a crowd that included some of Ukraine’s military forces.

Bono has a four-decade track record of being a great humanitarian, and he accepted the personal invitation from Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zegelensky to perform the surprise set. Joining the U2 stars on stage was the lead singer for the Ukrainian band Antytila, and together they sang some of the great U2 hits “Sunday Bloody Sunday,” “Desire,” and “With or Without You.”

Here’s part of what Bono told the crowd during the performance.

“The people in Ukraine are not just fighting for your own freedom, you are fighting for all of us who love freedom. We pray that you will enjoy some peace soon.”

Another cool moment of the performance came when Bono brought a Ukrainian soldier to the state with him, and together they covered the song “Stand by Me.”
