Let’s just say Tim Cook has a more measured reaction when someone mentions the word “metaverse” than his colleague Mark Zuckerberg.

Zuck is so giddy over the prospect of this digital world that he changed the name of his company to prove it.

Cook has told people he sees potential in the metaverse, and his company will be investing in it.

The Apple CEO told investors his company has already invested and committed to augmented reality during a recent earnings call. Just not as much as the artist formerly known as Facebook.

Cook pointed to the fact that the App Store has over 14,000 AR apps as a way to prove his commitment. Rumors in the tech world are that Apple is working on a VR headset they could release this year.

Here’s a direct quote from Cook taken from the earnings call on Thursday.

“We’re always exploring new and emerging technologies, and I’ve spoken at length about how it’s very interesting to us right now.”

Investors loved the news, and Apple’s stock price jumped 8% in after-hours trading after Cook gave a peek of his plans regarding the metaverse.
