Tiger Woods continues to recover in a Torrance, California hospital after his brutal rollover accident in Rancho Palos Verdes on Tuesday, and there were several new developments with the story.

Los Angeles County Sheriff Alex Villanueva told the media that Tiger would not be facing a reckless driving charge, or any criminal charges at all for what Villanueva a described as “purely an accident.”

He elaborated to day there were no signs Tiger was under any influence when his car rolled over after leaving the Terranea Resort on his way to a photo shoot with NFL stars Drew Brees and Justin Herbert.

“We do not contemplate any charges whatsoever in this crash,” Villanueva said when addressing the media Tuesday.  “This remains an accident. An accident is not a crime.”

Sheriff officials said they did not take a blood sample from Tiger because there were no signs of impairment.

The chief medical officer at Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, Dr. Anish Mahajan, said Tiger suffered from “comminuted open fractures” to the upper and lower sections of his right leg. That meant that doctors had to insert a rod, screws and pins into Tiger’s foot and ankle.

Dr. Scott Boden, an orthopedic surgeon a at Emory University School of University appeared on CNBC Wednesday night and talked about what the recovery process would look like for Tiger.

“We know that because it was an open fracture, meaning that the bone penetrated the skin, at least  temporarily, and that it was broken in multiple places, that this was a very high energy fracture, and that makes it a little bit more difficult to heal,” he said.

Multiple reports on Wednesday shared details of the long history of accidents on the stretch of road Tiger’s vehicle went out of control Tuesday morning.  There is no question that as serious as his injuries are, it’s a minor miracle he survived the high speed roll-over.
