Sometimes famous people have to learn the hard way that they do not have to have an opinion on everything.

LeBron James is finding out why he has not eclipsed Michael Jordan in popularity or relevance, and it’s because of his side hustle as a social activist.  MJ never, ever delved into politics as a player, and he reached anointed status because of it.  He never offended or isolated a large group of people because of his political views.  Nobody knew what they were, which was nice.

LeBron James has built a media empire and has a show on HBO called “The Shop.” In the trailer for the new episode, he talked about WNBA center Britney Griner, who admitted to bringing a hashish vape pen into Russia and is now facing a decade or more in prison because of it.

Astonishingly, James said in the teaser promo that if he were in Griner’s shoes, he might not even want to come back to America if she were freed.

“Now, how can she feel like America has her back? I would be feeling like, ‘Do I even want to go back to America?’”

Even though he has self-named himself “King James,” LeBron found out he is not actual royalty, and many patriotic people clapped back at his comment.

Did LeBron apologize? Not exactly.  After he was pummeled on social media, he tweeted this.

“My comments on “The Shop” regarding Brittney Griner wasn’t knocking our beautiful country. I was simply saying how she’s probably feeling emotionally along with so many other emotions, thoughts, etc, inside that cage she’s been in for over 100+ days! Long story short, #BringHerHome.”

Griner is a very polarizing figure because she frequently kneeled for the National Anthem before her WNBA games. A few years ago, she told the Arizona Republic that she didn’t believe the Anthem should be played before games.
