If you’re wondering how and why Afghanistan fell so quickly as the Taliban advanced on every major city take a look at the lack of leadership in the country.

Reports on Monday said Afghan President Ashraf Ghani fled the country.

He didn’t leave empty handed though, as the Russian embassy in Kabul said Monday that he hightailed it out of the presidential palace Sunday with four vehicles and a helicopter full of cash.

He then issued a statement on Facebook saying “ to avoid bloodshed, I thought it would be better to leave.”

The NY Post quoted Russian embassy spokesman Nikita Ishchenko, who described how the cowardly former leader deserted his country. “Four cars were full of money, they tried to stuff another part of the money into a helicopter, but not all of it fit. And some of the money was left lying on the tarmac.”

That account was not confirmed independently, and Ishchenko revealed he was relying on witnesses descriptions of the vents.

Ghani was educated in the United States.  He is a former World  Bank academic, and earned a doctorate degree from Columbia University.

He didn’t reveal on his Facebook post where he is going, but multiple reports said he pointed his plane to Uzbekistan and was going there.
