Pitcher Buys Pitchers! Former Cub Jon Lester Picks Up $50K Beer Tab For Fans.

A Cubs player just wrapped up what might be a legendary last call at the bars in the Windy City. Chicago Cubs pitcher Jon Lester most likely shot up the list of most lovable Cubs players this Halloween weekend after buying close to $50,000 worth of beer for Chicago patrons.

Lester is a free agent and his return to Chicago is not guaranteed, so he wanted to thank Cubs fans with free beer over the holiday weekend. On Friday he tweeted, “Regardless of what’s next I want to thank the fans for the past 6 years. So this weekend (10.30-11.1) Im buying y’all my favorite beer. Make a res at @Hopsmithchicago @LodgeTavern @ButchMcGuires @ShenannigansHOB & your 1st @MillerLite is on me. Just tell em to put it on #JonsTab”

On Monday, Lester tweeted out pictures of the receipts showing he had spent $47,094.90 between Friday and Sunday on Miller Lites and $16,012.27 in gratuity. Accompanying the pictures of the receipts, Lester commented, “Thanks for coming out this weekend y’all! Yesterday we added 1,372 @MillerLites to my tab, bringing our grand total to 4,838. Shout out to all the bars, their staff, and those cheers-ing from afar! Whether this is goodbye or see you next year, I love you Chicago! #JonsTab”

Lester won 77 games for the Cubs in his six years with the team and was a big part of their World Series win four years ago. Wondering how he figured out that $16,012.27 tip? It was 34%, the number Lester wore on his Cubs uniform.
