52 Senate Republicans voted to confirm Amy Coney Barrett as a Supreme Court Justice, 48 Democrats voted against her confirmation. The vote signaled a seismic shift in the court towards conservatives and it left liberals fuming and vowing revenge.

“The Republican majority is lighting its credibility on fire … The next time the American people give Democrats a majority in this chamber, you will have forfeited the right to tell us how to run that majority,” Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer ( D-N.Y.), said during a floor speech Monday and added, “My colleagues may regret this for a lot longer than they think.”

Senator Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) agreed with Schumer’s take, saying Republicans would “regret the consequences of taking the Senate down this path.”

One of the ways many Democrats have talked about getting revenge is by packing the court once they regain control of the Senate. The Supreme Court currently has nine sitting judges and by packing the court the Democrats would look to expand the court’s size with additional judges.

Moments after Judge Barrett was confirmed, Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and Congresswoman Ilhan Omar both tweeted out, “Expand the court.”

Vice-presidential nominee Kamala Harris also chimed in. “Today Republicans denied the will of the American people by confirming a Supreme Court justice through an illegitimate process—all in their effort to gut the Affordable Care Act and strip health care from millions with pre-existing conditions. We won’t forget this.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi also was not pleased about the confirmation and released a statement saying, “The President’s Supreme Court manipulation threatens the very values and rights that define and distinguish our nation: a woman’s constitutional right to make her own medical decisions, the rights of LGBTQ Americans, the right of workers to organize and collectively bargain for fair wages, the future of our planet and environmental protections, voting rights and the right of every American to have a voice in our democracy,”

While Democrats were melting down, Judge Barrett was taking her constitutional oath on Monday evening and Tuesday will take her Judicial Oath with Justice John Roberts, and then officially begin her new role as the ninth member of the Supreme Court.
