Athletes competing in the Beijing Olympics who test positive for COVID are dealing with nightmarish realities.

For one thing, many are missing the events they trained years for.  On top of that, the quarantine conditions described by athletes in them are horrible.

If athletes test positive, they are sent to the isolation facilities and must stay there until they have two consecutive negative PCR tests.

Athletes are sharing their experiences on social media and paint a pretty bleak picture of what happens to the unfortunate few who test positive in the country the virus originated from.

Russian biathlete Valeria Vasnetsova missed her competition as she sat in quarantine. As for the food she was given, it was the same thing, every meal, every day, for five straight days; Pasta, orange sauce, meat, and potatoes.

Here’s what she posted on Instagram.

“My stomach hurts, I’m very pale and I have huge black circles around my eyes. I want all this to end. I cry every day. I’m very tired.”

Athletes forced to quarantine also say that the internet service or poor or non-existent, and they have no access to training equipment.

The AP reported that the conditions had improved for Vasnetsova, and the meals she received over the weekend included salmon and cucumbers.
