Her name is Juliana Carlos, and before last night she was an anonymous sports fan in Atlanta lucky enough to live in Georgia, where she can actually attend an NBA game in person, and even more fortunate to have court-side seats to watch the Atlanta Hawks play the L.A. Lakers.
Now Juliana is more commonly referred to as “Courtside Karen,” for her meltdown Monday night, when she went off on Lakers’ superstar LeBron James, yelling and screaming, and yes, swearing at King James.
Here’s what went down. Juliana, an Instagram model, and her husband were watching the game, when hubby got into a heated verbal throw down with James. That’s when Juliana got involved, jumping in, going off on James and even ending her tirade by flipping the NBA superstar off. Things got so out of hand, that the refs literally had to stop the game so the referees could send Juliana and her husband, along with two other fans with them to the exits. They were ejected.
As she was exiting the arena, she went live on IG and provided some R-rated commentary, including more profanity and some threats she threw in for good measure.
Here’s how she summed things up on Instagram. “So, I’m minding my own business, and Chris has been a Hawks fan forever,” Juliana explained … “He has this issue with LeBron. I don’t have an issue with LeBron. I don’t give a f**k about LeBron.”
“Anyway, I’m minding my own business, drinking, having fun. All of the sudden, LeBron says something to my husband, and I see this and I stand up. And, I go, ‘Don’t f***ing talk to my husband.’ And, he looks at me and he goes, ‘Sit the f**k down, b*tch.'”
“And I go, ‘Don’t f**king call me a b*tch. You sit the f**k down. Get the f**k out of here. Don’t f**king talk to my husband like that.’”
While LeBron James is not a detective in his spare time, he did provide some pretty good analysis of what may have caused this. “They might have had a couple drinks, maybe.”
He followed that up with this verbal slam dunk on Twitter. “Courtside Karen was Mad Mad!!”
Let’s fast forward to Tuesday afternoon. The hangover may have been wearing off for Juliana, and she offered a public apology to James. “To say things escalated quickly at yesterday’s game is an understatement, and I want to apologize for losing my cool and removing my mask in the heat of the moment,” Juliana said in a statement.
“My husband is a huge sports fan and we’re passionate people, and let’s be real; sports wouldn’t be sports without a little trash-talking. What should have been quick back-and-forth between two adults got out of hand and my natural instinct to stand up for the man I love kicked in.”
“Did I get defensive when that happened? Yes. Did I use offensive language when I could have taken the higher road? yes. And for these things, I take full responsibility.”
This might have been the most dramatic and exciting moment of the NBA season so far.
