Make sure your remote control has fresh batteries. President Donald Trump and former VP and current presidential candidate Joe Biden were originally set to square off in a townhall style debate in Miami on Thursday, this week, until Trump refused to participate in a “socially distanced” debate. Now, the two candidates are scheduled to go head-to-head on Thursday, but in separate townhall events.

When the Commission on Presidential Debates shifted the original presidential debate to a virtual one, President Trump declined to take part in the virtual format, so it was cancelled. In response, Joe Biden almost immediately announced his plans to hold his own town hall event this Thursday at 8 p.m. ET on ABC. Not to be left out, Trump announced that he has scheduled his own townhall event for Thursday night on NBC, coincidentally also at 8 p.m. ET.

In an interview on SiriusXM radio on Tuesday, Vice President Mike Pence hinted that something was in the works, “The American people deserve to see both candidates squared off and the President’s made it very clear that he was ready to debate this week,” Pence told SiriusXM host Julie Mason. “I think there’s plans underway for us to have a similar public town hall event Thursday night. I think Joe Biden is doing the same, but how much better would it be if they were both on the stage, both taking the tough questions from people like you.”

Trump’s one-hour event will take place outdoors at the Perez Art Museum in Miami, Florida, and will be moderated by Today show co-anchor Savannah Guthrie. NBC has said that Dr. Anthony Fauci and National Institute of Health clinical research director Dr. Clifford Lane have both reviewed President Trump’s recent medical results and determined, “with a high degree of confidence,” that he is no longer shedding the virus.

As for the Biden town hall, it will take place at the National Constitution Center in Philadelphia, and will be moderated by Good Morning America’s George Stephanopoulos.

The third and final presidential debate is currently slated for October 22nd in Nashville, Tennessee, with NBC’s Kristen Welker scheduled to moderate.
