Dad always warned you, “That’s how they get you.” Never one to miss a marketing or a business angle, Disney unveiled a new line of items as part of its holiday merchandise: Disney-themed cloth face masks.

Are you all ears? The two-pack for $11.99 and four-pack for $19.99 could become a hot purchase at Walt Disney World Resort, where customers who are unaware of the mask requirement can protect those and others with a mask bearing the Mickey Mouse logo, the iconic Disney “D” or other Disney, Star Wars and Marvel characters.

And when they say there is a mask requirement, they don’t mean you can get by with the traditional souvenir-shop mask that turns you into a Stormtrooper, Spider-Man or Black Panther. This ain’t Halloween … yet.

With coronavirus restrictions expected to continue into 2021, Disney must be figuring on protective masks becoming a Christmas gift. They went on sale Monday in Orlando, at the Downtown Disney District outside closed Disneyland and the shopdisney.com site.

The Disney stores would sell more if they played a Kansas City actor’s viral “Be Our Guest” parody, called “Wear a Mask.” The video has been watched more than 2.3 million times on YouTube and more than 3.8 million times on Twitter.

Set to the tune of the song from the 1991 Disney movie “Beauty and the Beast,” the rewritten lyrics deliver a series of one-liners, hitting the crescendo of Lumiere’s big moment with, “Case by case, test by test, don’t forget you’re not oppressed, ’til we put this damn pandemic in the past.”
