A brand new office tower being constructed in downtown Austin, Texas, will stand 66 stories high, and when completed, will be the tallest building in the city.
That’s not the most newsworthy part of the story, however. Facebook parent company Meta announced that they are taking over 33 floors of that tower and will occupy every square inch from the 34th floor to the top.
According to the Austin Business Journal, Meta locked the deal down on New Year’s Eve, signing up for 589,000 square feet of office space. The building will include 349 residences, but the rest of the real estate in the tower is office space, and Meta will have all of it.
Meta has been making Texas a part of its growth for the past decade. They first arrived with seven employees in 2012, and now 2,000 Meta employees wear ID lanyards in the Texas capital.
As for filling all those cubicles in Texas, Meta plans on hiring 400 people in and around the Austin area quickly, and they’ll fill more positions in the future.
The building is all The Independent, and the design of it is unique. It’s been tabbed “The Jenga Tower” by people in Austin, and when completed, it will stand almost 700 feet tall and dominate the Austin skyline.
