While their time together won’t exactly inspire the next great romantic love story, at least Bill and Hillary Clinton can say they have stood the test of time. The political duo celebrated their 45th wedding anniversary on Sunday, exchanging messages on social media.

Bill and Hillary were married in their living room on October 11th, 1975 in a small Methodist ceremony with around 15 people in attendance.  While the couple has certainly faced their fair share of ups and downs, they have definitely endured over the years.

“October 11th was a beautiful day 45 years ago. Still is. The bride was beautiful too. And still is,” Bill tweeted Sunday alongside a photo of the couple, adding, “Happy Anniversary, Hillary. I love you.”

Hillary turned to Instagram for her message, “Forty-five years. Never a dull moment, and you’re still my best friend. Love you, Bill.” The note was accompanied by a photo from their wedding day.

Bill and Hillary met as students at the Yale University Library in 1971. The pair worked together on George McGovern’s unsuccessful presidential campaign in 1972 before Bill proposed, unsuccessfully, in 1973. Hillary eventually said yes and in 1975, they married after making their home in Arkansas.

In 1980, Bill and Hillary welcomed their first on only child, Chelsea Victoria Clinton.

In 1992 Bill was elected the 42nd President of the United States and won a second term in the 1996 election.

In 2016, Hillary Clinton ran for the White House, famously losing to Republican Donald Trump. She has since been a very vocal opponent of the President during his term in office, but she seems to have taken some time out to celebrate her wedding anniversary on Sunday. Chances are pretty good that we will hear plenty from the former secretary of state in the remaining days leading up to the election.

In five years, the Clintons will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary. Something that monumental might even result in them being in the same room together.
