When you think of all the things the coronavirus pandemic and COVID-19 is responsible for, one thing that doesn’t pop to the front of most people’s minds is gun sales.
But not only are hundreds of millions of Americans wearing facemarks on a daily basis due to the pandemic, many of them are heavily armed. In any other time in history that would be a very frightening vision, but it seems incredibly normal now.
Americans purchased more than 2 million firearms…Last Month! That is an increase of 80% from a year earlier, and it’s the third-highest recorded month of gun sales that has ever been recorded.
There are a number of reasons why, but here’s a few of the main ones. Bloomberg quoted the CEO of Vista Outdoors, located in Minnesota saying that COVID-19 is the “primary driver” driver of higher gun sales.
There was also the riot in Washington when a violent mob stormed the Capitol building on Jan. 6. When people feel scared for their safety they buy more guns.
Gun sales also tend to go up when a Democrat is elected President.
A couple other interesting nuggets from a report done by the National Shooting Sports Foundation found that 40% of all guns purchased in 2020 were first-time buyers. And women made up of 40% of all gun purchases.
