Say this about LeBron James. If his goal was to separate himself from Michael Jordan, well, mission accomplished.
He’s doing things MJ never thought of. Case in point, LeBron’s first game back after serving a one-game suspension for a cheap shot elbow he threw at a Detroit Pistons player Sunday.
LeBron had a great game Wednesday night in Indianapolis, leading the Lakers to an overtime win over the Pacers. He scored 39 points and had a massive three-pointer in the clutch, but the game made national headlines because LeBron was very unhappy with the antics of a couple of fans sitting courtside.
So, LeBron found the nearest ref, ratted the fans out, and got them ejected.
King James convicted the fans of inappropriate behavior. What’s funny is that the fans continued to mock LeBron even as security escorted them away.
What did they do to warrant an ejection? Said something that offended LeBron.
“I would never say it to a fan and a fan should never say it to a player,” he said after the game.
In other words, they were heckling. This has happened in the NBA before, but LeBron made it clear that it won’t fly when the comments are directed at “The Chosen One.”
Here are some ground rules, courtesy of LeBron James, for anyone holding tickets to an NBA game that may feature the Lakers this season.
“There’s a difference between cheering on your home faithful, booing opponents, not wanting your opponents to be successful, and there’s then moments where it goes outside the line with obscene gestures and words.”
