“I’ll Have a ‘Fauxlet-O-Fish’ and a ‘Big McPlant,’ Please!” McDonald’s Teaming Up With Beyond Meat for New Menu.

If in three months Ronald McDonald looks 15 pounds lighter and the Hamburglar has lost the dark circles under his eyes, we might have a good idea why. On Monday, McDonald’s announced that it is teaming up with El Segundo, California–based Beyond Meat to develop a McPlant-based menu lineup that will eventually include burgers, “chicken” and other items.

“McPlant is crafted exclusively for McDonald’s, by McDonald’s,” said Ian Borden, the president of McDonald’s international business, during a presentation for investors.

It’s one thing to have a plant-based menu; it’s another to have one that people will enjoy eating and actually order. Borden told the investors that the company believes it has a “proven, delicious-tasting product.”

It’s the second time the two companies have collaborated on faux fast food, as they created a plant-based burger that was tested in Canada recently. A representative of Beyond Meat told Business Insider on Monday that “Beyond Meat and McDonald’s co-created the plant-based patty that will be available as part of this new platform.”

Investors apparently liked the taste of this interesting new collab. Beyond Meat’s stock jumped 9% on the McNews, making up for a huge selloff from earlier in the morning.

Look for the McPlant-based creations on a McDonald’s menu board sometime in 2021. “There are other plant-based burgers out there, but the McPlant delivers our iconic taste in a sink-your-teeth-in (and wipe-your-mouth) kind of sandwich,” McDonald’s told USA Today.
