Can we have respect for neighbor again?

Are we in political tumultuous times? Will the sun rise tomorrow? Surely it will, but maybe it won’t.

There is reason, more so now then ever to consider why it is important for us to stay aware of what is happening in politics. We do not need to let it dictate our happiness, peace and joy however, we should be engaged!

Of course you make that decision, share a few articles, give a few opinions and soon you are assaulted with high school like laughing emoji’s on a post. Comments with words of knives going straight for the jugular that have resulted in post traumatic feelings of sitting alone in the lunch room and wishing you had the guts to punch them all in the face (I may or may not be projecting)… But what good will that do?

Maybe that is what’s happening anyway, is it not? We are simply punching each other in the face figuratively speaking in our engagement of political views. How is it working out for us? Calling Liberals snowflakes and conservatives extremists. It seems like one great divide. Maybe that’s the point.

I have my opinion; Okay fine I’ll share it. I think it is on purpose. The more we fight the more we no longer welcome each other over for thanksgiving dinner. What does that say about us in the end? Hey, we have opinions and we may never agree with one another, but at some point, We need to talk; may I even dare like civil human beings. Here is my go to guideline I do my best to remember when I am engaged in debate (I do not always do well here, but I strive for it).

Proverbs 15:1
“A soft answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.”

Conclusion:

We do not need to lose our relationship for what we can’t agree on. It is up to us to make sure that is the case. You can’t control the opposite for their response. That responsibility is yours. React or respond. That choice is up to you.

“When you react, you let other control you. When you respond, you are in control.”
