It’s the mansion that’s so nice that hockey legend Wayne Gretzky will sell it twice.

“The Great One” is again parting ways with a great one, his 13,300-square-foot estate on 7 acres in Thousand Oaks, Calif. The asking price: $22.9 million. But that includes two guest houses, so there is value.

Gretzky and his wife, former actress Janet Jones Gretzky, built the elegant, colonial-style home shortly after his retirement in 2002. He had played eight of his 20 NHL years in the Los Angeles area for the Kings.

In 2007, Gretzky was the Phoenix Coyotes head coach so the couple sold the home for $18.5 million to former Major League Baseball star Lenny Dykstra. When Dykstra foreclosed, the house was sold at auction in 2010 for $760,712 with $12 million of debt. Gretzky bought it back for $13.5 million in 2018.

The Gretzkys, both 59 years old, might be ready for downsizing and moving closer to their Florida-based grandkids after raising five children. Those six bedrooms and eight bathrooms are probably feeling a little empty these days.

The red-brick mansion is breathtaking once you pass the gates of Sherwood Country Club to reach the sprawling property. There is everything from white columns to a tennis court on the outside and a movie theater to chandeliers on the inside. The 360-degree views take in Lake Sherwood, the Santa Monica Mountains, and all the regular multi-millionaires’ homes.

“Exquisite, elegant craftsmanship is apparent in every room, with no detail overlooked,” The Agency realtor Arvin Haddad wrote on the listing.

For most of us, the free price of experiencing the home in breathtaking photographs will suffice.
