Will Smith finally talked about his assault on Chris Rock at the 2022 Academy Awards, and he did it via a long, weird video post on Instagram.

If you believe Smith and take his words at face value, you’ll most likely buy into his apology to Rock and everyone else he affected that night.

If you are not a fan of Smith, you will most likely lean towards the thought that it took him this long to say anything because he was trying to memorize the lines and make them sound authentic.

The disgraced Oscar winner answered a bunch of questions about the infamous night, and he tried to articulate why he waited this long as he unleashed a word salad of an apology. Oh, by the way, he read the questions to himself.

Here are some highlights:

On why he waited this long to speak finally.

“I was fogged out by that point. It’s all fuzzy. I’ve reached out to Chris, and the message that came back is that he’s not ready to talk. And when he is, he will reach out.”

Did he assault Rock because he saw his wife Jada roll her eyes after Rock’s joke about her bald head?

“I made a choice on my own, from my own experiences from my history with Chris. Jada had nothing to do [with it].”

Why he acted like such an idiot, walking to the stage and slapping Rock?

“That was one of the things about that moment. I just didn’t realize.  I wasn’t thinking but how many people got hurt in that moment. So I want to apologize to Chris’ mother. I want to apologize to Chris’ family. Specifically, Tony Rock. We had a great relationship. You know, Tony rock was my man and this is probably irreparable.”

Things, of course, got a little weird. Near the end of the video, Smith was addressing people who may have previously looked up to him, and he said the fact he disappointed them is his “central trauma.”

All in all, his performance was stronger than his acting in the second and third installments of his Bad Boys films, but the most interesting thing is to see how all of this will land with Chris Rock.

  • As it is written. “Him without sin cast the first stone.” My brother Will made a mistake and was controlled by his emotional response. There are many thousands in prison today for making the same mistake. Will is a very good person and this experience will only make him better in the long run. The only way we can learn in this Universe is by making mistakes and correcting. From babies this can not stop.
