While the Nebraska Cornhuskers are known as the “Big Red,” it was Joe Biden who managed to put a little blue into the Cornhusker state on Tuesday. Nebraska and Maine are outliers when it comes to awarding their electorates. Both states allocate their electoral votes by congressional district rather than statewide.

On Election Night, Biden was able to win a single electoral vote from Nebraska by winning the state’s 2nd Congressional District. That lone vote could actually end up being consequential toward Biden reaching the 270 vote threshold required to win the presidency.

The 2nd District is moderate but tends to lean much more Democratic than the rest of Nebraska. Outside of Omaha, Donald Trump won the state easily. Former President Obama was the last Democrat to win the 2nd district’s lone electoral vote for Democrats back in 2008.

Jane Kleeb, The Nebraska Democratic Party Chairwoman, celebrated Biden’s win in Omaha by tweeting “Jomaha!!”

In an interesting twist, a Biden-Bacon vote ended up proving just how moderate the 2nd district is. Despite the Biden win in Omaha, the same district went the opposite direction politically in their District 2 house race as Republican Don Bacon defeated Kara Eastman. Overall, Eastman underperformed Biden in the district by about 20,000 votes and ended up losing to Bacon by close to 16,000.
