No Governor has received more criticism about how he’s handled the COVID pandemic than Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
And according to new numbers out of the Sunshine state, no state has handled coronavirus better than Florida.
In a state with a population of almost 22 million, an average of only 1,393 daily coronavirus cases were reported as of Friday. That is a staggeringly low six cases per 100,000.
To refresh you of the vitriolic attacks DeSantis was hit with since opposing government-imposed masks and vaccine mandates, here’s a reminder of what was being said.
Vanity Fair referred to DeSantis as the “angel of death” in September of this year.
One Democrat lawmaker accused DeSantis of going on a “killing spree” when he said Florida would not participate in the mandatory mask-wearing that other states embraced.
Contrast the results DeSantis has had in Florida compared to states run by liberal Democratic governors. New York is reporting an average of 6,666 daily cases. That’s 34 out of every 100,000 residents.
Under governor Gretchen Whitmer, Michigan leads the entire nation in daily coronavirus cases per capita, and she’s imposed some of the most over-the-top restrictions on residents of her state.
The bottom line, according to many experts, is that lockdowns don’t work.
Here’s what Christina Push, the Press Secretary for DeSantis, told Fox News.
“It just shows once again the success of Governor DeSantis’s science-based and data-based policies. He’s always made decisions based on the data, and that continued even during the Delta surge this summer what he realized would help was not mask mandates in school or lockdowns but provide treatment that actually works.”
Pushaw said that DeSantis opened 25 antibody sites and provided treatment to residents all over the state free of charge starting in August. Since then, Florida’s COVID cases have been down 95%, and the freedoms of residents have not been restricted.
