If some well funded, forward-thinking visionaries get their way, in the next few the concept of getting out of town for a few days might include the option of leaving the galaxy.

A company that is designing high-tech balloons to take you on a trip to the edges of space wants you to reimagine the concept of space travel.

Space Perspective has what you would call “bold” plans for how they want to revolutionize the travel industry. They want to take brave and adventurous souls to the edge of space to allow them to experience something previously reserved for a small number of astronauts; the perspective of Earth as a planet, spinning in the deep dark void of our solar system in the Milky Way.

The founders of the company are not new to the space game. In the early 1990’s they designed the air, food, and water systems for Biosphere 2, which they refer to as the most advanced prototype space base ever built and operated.

Here’s where their vision veers into a different galaxy than the one shared by tech titans Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos and Sir Richard Branson. Space Perspectives has a plan to use balloons that are roughly the size of a football stadium to take tourists 100,000 feet into the air.

They promise a comfortable, unforgettable, and yes safe trip too.

The trip is more like an “experience,” as the whole journey lasts just six hours and is climaxed by a splash into the Atlantic Ocean off the coast of Florida.

The cost is still being worked out, but expect it to go for roughly $125,000 per person.

The first trips into space on their ship called Neptune is scheduled for later this year, and real journeys into space could happen as soon as 2024.

If they pull this off, it sure beats a hot air balloon ride over a vineyard.
