The much awaited new name for Facebook was announced today.

Going forward the company will be known as Meta, and their new ticker symbol will transition from FB to MVRS starting Dec. 1.

As for the new name, because the company plans to go all in on the metaverse, they wanted the name of their company to reface that.  So there you go, it’s now called Meta.

If you’re wondering what the meta verse is, well, think of it as a virtual-reality space and users inside that space can interact with each other in the environment that will be computer generated.

You know Mark Zuckerberg has been staying up late coming up with the perfectly crafted statement, and this is what he said on Thursday.

“Today, we’re seen as a social media company. But in our DNA, we’re a company that builds technology to connect people, and the metaverse is the next frontier, just like social networking was when we got started,”From now on, we’re going to be metaverse first, not Facebook first. That means that over time, you won’t need to use Facebook to use our other services as our new brand start showing up in our products. I hope that people come to know the Meta brand and the future that we stand for.”

Having the new name doesn’t eliminate the literal reality that the company is under some serious scrutiny from government regulators and the public in general.

But for now, it’s all about the new name, and the new applications and capabilities the company will have going forward.
