Jack Sweeney made news earlier this for being the 19-year old IT student at the University of Central Florida who tracked the whereabouts of Elon Musk’s private jet.

He’s now shifted his focus and set up a new Twitter account that follows the private planes of the Russian oligarchs who are having the screws tightened on them financially by the United States and their European allies over Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

The Twitter account is called “Russian Oligarch Jets.” It provides all the info you need to know about where these billionaires are going.  It lists times of takeoff and landing, maps, and by mid-Tuesday, it had 100,000 followers.

These oligarchs are part of Vladimir Putin’s inner circle, and the sanctions are meant to freeze their assets and potentially seize yachts and private planes they own. One of them is Roman Abramovich, the owner of the Chelsea football club in Europe.  Another is Alexander Abramov, a steel industry titan who is the wealthiest person in Russia.

Sweeney is one sharp kit. He uses bots to scrape public air-traffic information.

It appears the sanctions haven’t slowed the rich Russians down too much, as their aircraft appear to be moving, although there’s no way to tell who is on them.

Sweeney has another Twitter account that tracks jets that Putin might personally use himself.
