Elon Musk likes to shock, awe, and do things in a big way. Oh, you’ve noticed?

Thursday was Tesla’s AI Day, and of course the CEO would have to share something exciting that he and his team of brainiacs are working on, and he didn’t disappoint.

Musk said he’s going to unleash something in 2022 that he believes will have a profound impact on the company.  A humanoid robot.

“It’s basically going to start dealing with work that is boring, repetitive and dangerous. What is the work that people would least like to do?”

Musk went on to explain that the robot would have a screen where a normal human face would be.  That screen would be used to display “useful information” as he called it.

The robot is not ready to come out and play quite yet.  There’s no official word what undesirable jobs it will be doing, but more than likely physical labor on an assembly line or warehouse.

Up until now, nobody has been able to perfect a human-like robot, and with Musk always up for a challenge, it’s not surprising he’s giving it a whirl.

He described this project as an extension of Tesla’s ambition to build self-driving cars. The robot will be average height, 5’8”, and a little scrawny at 125 pounds. But it will be strong, able to carry 45 pounds and can move at 5 milers per hour.

Musk said it should have the capability to follow human commands. He’s confident if you tell the robot to go wash your car, or buy groceries at the store it should be able to do it.

Oh, and Musk promised one last thing… The robot would be friendly.
