When you think of Elon Musk, the number 186 billion comes to mind.  That is how many news stories are written about the world’s richest person every single week it seems.

Here’s one more, but it has nothing to do with Tesla, SpaceX, or his unrivaled ability to alter the value of company’s simply by thinking of them.

This is about his side, side, side, side, side hustle. The Boring Company he founded that digs huge tunnels under major city’s to alleviate their traffic woes.  He’s tried, but failed, with one in L.A., is almost done with one Las Vegas, and he’s told the mayor of Miami that he will solve their massive freeway congestion issues too.  And he’ll do it a heck of a lot cheaper than anyone thought.

After an original estimate of the job taking four years and costing a billion dollars, Musk amended those numbers for Mayor Francis Suarez, telling hime the projection now is for it to take six months, and cost just $30 million.

Musk initially shared his interest in building a tunnel under Miami in January. “Cars & trucks stuck in traffic generate megatons of toxic gases & particulate, but @boringcompany road tunnels under Miami would solve traffic & be an example to the world,” he wrote.

A concern the city had was the limestone bedrock that the city is built on, making it spongey and difficult to excavate. That was one reason for the high original cost.  Musk apparently discussed that  with Mayor Suarez today, and both sides are confident the project can be done.
