Count Elon Musk as one centi-billionaire who’s not a fan of one of his fellow club members’ new project.

The world’s richest person gave Mark Zuckerberg and Zuck’s new virtual reality metaverse world a verbal smackdown this week as he appeared on The Babylon Bee podcast.

Musk methodically picked apart the concept that has Zuckerberg so giddy. For one thing, Musk thinks the metaverse is more hype than substance. “This just sounds kind of buzzword-y,” he explained to the podcast host.

And it’s not an exaggeration to say he isn’t a fan of the headsets needed to live your life in the metaverse, saying, “it doesn’t feel like that’s the answer necessarily.”

Musk’s best verbal dig at the metaverse was regarding its solitary nature and having to strap into an odd-looking helmet to live a virtual life.

“I don’t see someone strapping a frigging screen to their face all day and not wanting to ever leave.”

Let’s just say Musk and Zuckerberg agree to disagree on the relevance and potential impact of the metaverse.

There’s a reason Musk was selected as Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2021.  He’s brash, opinionated, informed, and often correct.

Time will tell if he’s right about the future of the metaverse.
