James Kunz of Fort Collins, Colorado, has just ensured he will never go hungry or have a dull day at the beach ever again.  He got a 12-by-12 inch tattoo of the Subway Series logo on his back, which won him foot longs for eternity, and $50,000 in Subway gift cards to ensure he never pays for another sandwich again.

It was the big promotion that launched the overhaul of Subway’s menu, the biggest in company history.  Remember back in the day, you know, earlier this year, when you could get your Subway customized however you wanted?  Yeah, that’s history, and to usher in the new era, the sandwich chain hosts a block party event in Las Vegas this week.

Depending on the size of the tattoo, fans could get free sandwiches for a month, a year, or a lifetime.  Kunz was either going big or going home, and he turned his back into a mural and took home the grand prize.

Here’s what the winner said.

“I’m a huge fan of Subway, so I thought about it and I thought well, maybe I should fly out to Las Vegas. I’m thrilled to have made it this far and to have actually gotten the big tattoo. I’m proud of it.”

Kunz also revealed that the restaurant chain has already played a significant role in his life.

“I used to be a chunky teenager, and Subway was one of the factors that helped me change out of less-healthy fast food. It helped me to become a lot healthier.”

Easy on the mayo and cheese the next few decades, James.  You don’t want to go back to those teenage years.
