Kirk Cameron continues to be the voice and leader of a resistance movement in California. The “Growing Pains” star and strong anti-mask advocate hosted a party in Malibu on New Year’s Eve in direct defiance of COVID-19 regulations currently in place.

Cameron invited people to the beach get-together through Instagram, saying, “We’re hoping that we’re going to have hundreds of people here. Please come and join us by candlelight as we sing and as we pray for our country.”

The actor held a similar event before Christmas to bring people together for caroling.

Critics have been quick to jump on Cameron for his anti-mask stance, while his Instagram posts seem to lean more toward freedom of choice than straight up anti-mask.

“If you want to wear masks, we welcome masks,” Cameron said in a clip on his Instagram story. “If you want to spread out with your family, there’s plenty of room here. Remember, you’re in charge of your healthcare. Use wisdom, common sense and good judgment with that.”

The 50-year-old actor posted footage from the event, which was reportedly called a “Sunset Singing and Prayer Event,” held at Point Mugu State Park in Ventura County. Cameron shared a four-minute-long prayer from the event on his social media pages, with supporters joining him in a prayer “for the nation.”

California has enforced the strictest lockdown measures throughout the course of the COVID-19 pandemic, yet it is now facing the largest surge in cases.
