China President Xi Jinping Has A Book On Amazon.cn. The Chinese Government Ordered Amazon To Delete All Reviews And Comments Of It.

Books on Chinese President Xi Jinping are on display at the annual book fair in Hong Kong Wednesday, July 14, 2021. The book fair was postponed twice last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. This year's event saw a reduction of politically sensitive books compared to previous years, as vendors look to avoid breaching a sweeping national security law imposed on the city last year. A few years ago, China President Xi Jinping somehow found time to write a book.  It’s called “The Governance of China,” and you won’t be able to tell if it’s popular or not if you read the comments under the book’s link on amazon.cn

That’s because there aren’t any.

According to a story in Reuters, the Chinese government ordered Amazon to delete all the reviews and comments.

Did Amazon comply with China’s wishes? Of course, they did. That’s essentially the cost of doing business in China, and many companies are forced to make decisions like that.

According to reports, China made this demand back in 2019, but nobody noticed until Monday.

If you look at the book now, it is the only book on Amazon.cn that does not have any reviews or comments for it.

In 2018, Amazon issued an internal report that described the challenges they had doing business in China. Here’s an excerpt from the report that dealt with one of the core issues the mega-company faces in China.

“Ideological control and propaganda is the core of the toolkit for the communist party to achieve and maintain its success. We are not making judgment on whether it is right or wrong.”

In 2017, China became Kindle’s largest global market, accounting for 40% of global sales volume, according to the story in Reuters.
