Unbelievable images are circulating on social media and newscasts showing violent protesters who infiltrated the U.S. Capitol Wednesday, causing a lockdown and evacuation of the building.

Protestors broke windows, streamed inside both the House and Senate chambers, and outmanned Capitol Police officers, who were forced to pull their guns. Shots were fired inside.

Fox News aired an image of a man who got into House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s office, posing with his feet on her desk.

Another image shows a member of the mob on the Senate chamber floor, where Mitch McConnell had just delivered remarks after leaving the joint session of Congress gathered to certify the Electoral College votes from the presidential election. The first objection had been lodged, to Arizona’s electoral votes, and the Senate had retired to its own chambers for debate.

At 4:00 Eastern additional police forces arrived from Maryland as authorities tried to get control of the chaos, and White House Press Secretary Kayleigh McEnany sent out a tweet that the National Guard is on it’s way to the Capitol area, as the entire DC National Guard has been called in.

“At PresidentAt President @realDonaldTrump’s direction, the National Guard is on the way along with other federal protective services. We reiterate President Trump’s call against violence and to remain peaceful.”
