Apple has a problem with their AirTags.  In many instances, they were being used for the wrong and dangerous reasons, and the company said they are in the process of fixing it.

The new product was rolled out in April of last year, and almost immediately, there were issues, as they were being used to track people.

Here’s part of a message Apple posted on their website.

“AirTag was designed to help people locate their personal belongings, not to track people or another person’s property, and we condemn in the strongest possible terms any malicious use of our products.”

The stories of women being stalked by AirTags are all over.  Brooks Nader, a Sports Illustrated swimsuit model, was tracked after an AirTag was slipped into her pocket at a restaurant.

There have been AirTags placed on cars or on the tires of vehicles as creeps are then able to track people.

Here’s another scary way criminals have used them; they will place AirTags on luxury cars to track it to the owner’s driveway, where they would then steal them.

Apple is updating their software, warning the purchaser that using them to track anything other than personal belongings is a crime, and the police can request identifying info from Apple about the owner of the AirTag.

The company will refine its “Unknown Accessory Detected” alert, according to Insider.  They are also planning to launch other updates to increase AirTag security.
