You can call Vladimir Putin a lot of things.  “Good salesman” is not one of them.

The Russian President has been trying to spin his invasion into Ukraine, referring to it as a “special military operation.”  In the war that’s less than two weeks old, he’s already banned media outlets in Russia from reporting anything but positive updates from the battlefield and threatened journalists with prison time.

The hacking group that calls itself “Anonymous” took that as a challenge and claimed they have hacked into Russian state TV and shown footage of the war on Russia 24, Channel One, and Moscow 24.

The message that has been broadcast to viewers was that the Ukraine invasion was a civil war, led by Nazi nationalists and assisted by the West and NATO. Anonymous is revealing a different reality that shows the awful realities of what has happened since the invasion began.

Anonymous is all in on this hack job.  Last week they claimed to have successfully shut down Russia’s space agency and announced that Putin “no longer has control over spy satellites.”  It’s doubtful Putin sees the irony in the fact that he has used Russian hackers to wreak havoc all over the world for years. Anonymous sent out a tweet that they said proved the Space Agency’s control center was shut down, while the head of the agency denied it and called Anonymous “petty swindlers.”

Along with the war images, Anonymous aired messages that say “ordinary Russians are against the war,” and it encouraged viewers to join in its opposition.

Anonymous declared a “cyber war” on Russia and seems to be making life difficult for Putin and company.
