As the coronavirus pandemic first started to surge, reports circulated that the virus may have emerged from a Chinese lab. Now, as the pandemic continues to wreak havoc, U.S. Deputy National Security Advisor Matthew Pottinger is doubling down on that theory.

According to the Daily Mail, Pottinger was on a Zoom call with British officials recently and reportedly said, “There is a growing body of evidence that the lab is likely the most credible source of the virus.”

Going back to January 2020, Pottinger was one of the first U.S. officials to raise concerns about the virus escaping a Chinese lab. The World Health Organization has been investigating the origins of the virus since the first cases were made public, but critics, including Pottinger, have said the WHO probe is a ruse.

The Associated Press said in a recent article that efforts by AP journalists to investigate the origins of the virus in China have been blocked at every turn. As the AP article stated, “More than a year since the first known person was infected with the coronavirus, an AP investigation shows the Chinese government is strictly controlling all research into its origins, clamping down on some while actively promoting fringe theories that it could have come from outside China.”

Any information released about the origins of the virus must be approved by the Chinese government before being published. So as theories continue to emerge from Beijing, keep in mind that those are the theories the Chinese government is hoping you will believe.
