The New England Patriots have become very accustomed to winning over the past 20 years. This year has been different as the team struggled on its way to a 6-9 record. The most recent loss was a 38-9 thumping by the Buffalo Bills. A loss that cost one bettor big money.

According to Buffalo News, a BetMGM customer in Las Vegas placed a $500,000 bet on the Patriots plus seven and another $200,000 on the Patriots to win straight up, at +270 odds. A New England win would have resulted in a $1.04 million payout but the Buffalo victory resulted in the bettor getting absolutely nothing for his $700,000 investment.

The Patriots did score first on the game’s opening possession but from there it was all downhill as the Bills pulled away on their way to an easy victory.

The Patriots snapped a streak of 11 consecutive seasons making the playoffs this year. The last time New England was watching the playoffs from home was back in 2008.

Buffalo is headed in the opposite direction of the Patriots, as they clinched the AFC East title for the first time since 1995. The Bills will be either the No. 2 or 3 seed entering the playoffs depending on the outcome of their game against the Dolphins this weekend. Anyone want to make a $700,000 bet on how that one will turn out?
