There is another bizarre story featuring Matt Gaetz, the Florida Republican Rep. who is being investigated by federal authorities over alleged sexual misconduct.

A number of reports claim he asked President Trump’s team for a preemptive pardon as Trump’s term was winding down.

Did it happen? The former President went so far as to release a statement about it Wednesday, saying “Congressman Matt Gaetz has never asked me for a pardon.  It must be remembered that he has totally denied the accusations against him.”

Fox News reported that according to a source, Gaetz went to Trump’s team and sought “blanket preemptive pardons.”  The report said he requested them for himself, as well as other allies in congress who were unnamed.  The request was to cover crimes potentially committed.

Gaetz had long been one of Trump’s biggest supporters, but according to Fox, the request for the pardon was met with what they described as “lots of eye rolling.”  The request reportedly was not taken seriously by the White House and not even considered.

Back in November, during an interview with Fox news, Gaetz said that Trump should “robustly” pardon “everyone,” including Trump himself. Gaetz said its was necessary to ward off what he called the blood lust of Democrats.

The New York Times has reported that Gaetz is being investigated for potential sex trafficking, and for making payments to women, but so far no charges have been filed.

Everything about this situation involving Gaetz is bizarre.  Gaetz has denied everything, and has claimed that he and his family are victims of an organized criminal extortion plot, involving a  former DOJ official who was seeking $25 million.
