Ticketmaster is apparently ready to start scheduling concerts in 2021, but going to a show will not be as easy as just purchasing tickets. According to Billboard magazine, “Ticketmaster has been working on a framework for post-pandemic fan safety that uses smart phones to verify fans’ vaccination status or whether they’ve tested negative for the coronavirus within a 24- to 72-hour window.”

According to Billboard, the plan, which is apparently still being ironed out, “will rely on three separate components—the Ticketmaster digital ticket app, third-party health information companies like CLEAR Health Pass or IBM’s Digital Health Pass, and testing and vaccine distribution providers like LabCorp and the CVS Minute Clinic.”

If implemented, this new procedure will require customers to present evidence that they have had a COVID-19 vaccination or show that they have tested negative for the virus in the past 24 to 72 hours leading up to the concert.

Ticketmaster services most concert venues and major-league sports venues across the country so the procedure could feasibly be used for fans looking to return to the stands of sporting events next year.

Anyone who fails to get a test or tests positive for the virus would be restricted from going to the event. All steps in the process would be done though a user’s smart phone, and the digital tracking of information and elimination of paper tickets would also play a role in eliminating the opportunity for tickets to be resold.
